Biography
Karyn Mitchell is a Naturopath with a Ph.D. in Psychology. She has
attended The University of Iowa, The University of Nebraska, Loras
College, Buena Vista College, Midwest University, and Westbrook
University. After receiving her Doctorate in Psychology, she pursued her
degree in Naturopathy. She attended a year of training and certification
with Foundations In Herbal Medicine with Tierrona LowDog, M.D.
After she achieved her Naturopathic Degree, she continued her education
in Herbal Pharmacology from Bastyr University. She was involved in
research concerning women's health and cancer for one year for Midwest
College of Naturopathy, and is now Dean of Students in that program.
Advanced studies in parasitology and AIDS led her to research in
Mexico. She has continued her education by completing course work
with The American Botanical Council, and is now in advanced training in
Homeopathy with the Devon School in England. She is certified by the
ANCB as a Certified Traditional Naturopath. She is currently involved in
auto-immune research.
She is an international teacher and speaker in the fields of Reiki,
Hypnotherapy, Vegetarian, Vegan, and Raw Foods Lifestyle, Nutrition,
Iridology, Meditation, Natural Medicine, and Shamanism. She has been a
student of Psychology, Natural Health, Religion, and Philosophy for over
thirty eight years. She has taken the Five Mindfulness Trainings with
Master Thich Nhat Hanh, a Buddhist Monk ordained in the Zen
tradition, and has taken initiations and studied with His Holiness the
Dalai Lama. Also, Karyn is a graduate of the Silva Method, and has
studied Shamanism with Michael Harner and Sandra Ingerman (The
Foundation for Shamanic Studies). She has studied other cultural
dimensions of Shamanism in other countries and from other instructors,
including initiations by her grandfather who was a Sami Shaman. She is
certified through the American Board of Hypnotherapy as an Instructor.
She has devoted her life's work to assisting others with their healing
process. Karyn maintains an office at Haven Holistic Center in St. Charles,
Illinois and works as a Naturopath, Reiki Practitioner, Teacher, and
Therapist. She has taught at two high schools and three universities in the
United States. She is currently Dean of Students and a professor for
Midwest University teaching advanced courses in Anatomy, Herbology,
Homeopathy, Women's Health, Laboratory Testing, and Deep Tissue
Lymphatic Drainage. Karyn is a prolific writer, and has written four
books concerning natural healing and one fiction book. She is currently
writing a book about healing with enzymes and raw foods. She writes a
monthly health column for the St. Charles and Geneva Republican called
“Nature's Way.” She also has two C.D.’s entitled “Heal Now,” and “Re-
Boot Your Brain.” She is most proud of her family (two sons and husband
of thirty-six years) and the students who have taken studies and intern
with her. “To be a teacher in natural health, one is comforted to know that
the future of traditional medicine belongs to those who care
compassionately for others.”
